• Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a captivating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features a number of amenities in addition to the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
