• Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is banned. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features many conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
